During winter, many people head for warmer climates by taking a road trip south. This is made easier when you have an RV and don’t need to spend money on hotels. If you are planning to visit some winter RV destinations while the weather is colder, consider checking out these places.
Winter RV Destinations in the Mountains: Asheville, NC
Asheville is a lively mecca for outdoor enthusiasts, art collectors, and food connoisseurs. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the climate is still fairly moderate throughout the winter despite the higher elevation. Some portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway close during the winter, but there are still stretches of the scenic road that stay open and provide access to trailheads all year round.
Be sure to visit the Biltmore Estate, a 19th century mansion and museum with acres of gardens and trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. For craft beer fans, there are over 30 breweries in this small, bustling city.
Winter RV Destinations on the Coast: Charleston, SC
If you are interested in visiting a charming coastal city to chase away the winter blues, Charleston is a great option. Cobblestone streets, antebellum-style homes, and horse and buggies send you back in time. The sun shines on many days during the winter months and there are plenty of beaches to enjoy with fewer visitors than you’ll find in the warmer months.
Greenville, SC
Greenville is a diverse city planted in the upstate of South Carolina. The Reedy River runs right through the center of downtown, which features a beautiful waterfall park called Falls Park on the Reedy just adjacent to the historic West End district. Nearby Paris Mountain State Park offers fishing, boating, hiking, and biking.
St. Augustine, FL
If you want to visit Florida for the winter but still keep your driving time manageable, St. Augustine is a good option. It is the oldest city in the United States and is rich in historical sites, including the largest and oldest fort in the country, the Castillo de San Marcos. You’ll enjoy an exciting downtown with plenty of restaurants and entertainment, and nearby St. Augustine beach.
